Home photovoltaic (PV) power has come of age. It is no longer difficult to assemble a power system that works. The creative challenge is to fit the system to your needs while making it simple, understandable, affordable, and able to grow as your needs change. Your investment in planning an integrated system pays off immediately and throughout the life of the system. At Positive Energy, we can help you to design your system and understand how to use it and care for it. We can visit your site and advise on placement of panels, batteries and controls, wire sizing, etc. We can also converse with your well driller, and advise on pump selection. We can install your system, or refer you to electricians and drillers who have become familiar with solar technology..

By advance consulting, we can help you make decisions clearly and quickly. We'll take it step by step, at a speed that you are comfortable with. We are also available as advisors, for help with a land purchase decision, for a second opinion, or for system troubleshooting.

Efficiency comes First

The first step is to determine how much electrical energy you need, and what for. This is called a "load analysis." By using ultra-efficient lights, appliances, water supply and heating systems, we radically reduce the energy waste inherent in most homes. By reducing the waste, we reduce the size and cost of the system. A copy of a very good load analysis originally printed in Home Power magazine is available for download here.

Site Planning

Every site is unique: solar access and shading considerations, wind resource, slope, views, access, and building locations all affect the design and installation of an integrated power system. We have no "standard package #3"; every system is uniquely designed to your loads, lifestyle, budget, and site.

Water Supply

An independent power system can pump deep wells, pressurize cistern rainwater, and provide reliable domestic water. A well-designed system becomes invisible in daily use. We specialize in solar water pumping, and routinely include water supply in an overall design. We suggest some site and system planning before you drill a well or install plumbing.

Wiring

Your wiring is the foundation on which your system is built. Your wiring design will affect your system's efficiency, its potential for expansion, and its resistance to lightning damage. We'll help you plan the wiring before you dig trenches or wire your house.

The Details

Most important are the small details that other suppliers miss: avoiding "phantom loads" (little energy wasters built in to many appliances); sizing water pipes; designing for future upgrades; and most important, making sure you understand your system's capabilities and limitations.

Kohler Generators

We recommend a alternative charging source for most homes, for extended periods of inclement weather. We are an authorized dealer for Kohler generators. We have chosen to limit our model selection to LP (propane) and natural gas models from 8.5 to 50 kW.
